Digital Technology

Digital technology refers to electronic resources such as computers, internet, etc. used to store and process data in a systematic manner. Digital technology may include diverse electronic devices that may help in various fields such as health, communication, education, business, etc. It plays a pivotal role in making our tasks easier and faster compared to the traditional approach.

Digital technology plays an important role in the education field too. Incorporating digital technology can aid the teaching and learning process to make them effective and engaging. Digital technology enhances the learning environment and provides in-depth overview of the topic. They can provide easy access to a wide source of information at almost zero cost.

Digital technology makes students learn through different ways including animated videos to understand complex topics in an easy way. Students can also learn through simulation which provides a safer way to verify the result of the experimentation. We can also create virtual classrooms through various platforms such as Teams, Zoom, etc. during circumstances when physical class is not possible. We can also use google classroom to provide reading materials online.

I am using google classroom and giving lectures through zoom to my students when physical classes are not possible. The experience of such classes is nice and has proven to be an effective way to deliver classes online. I am also getting positive feedback from my students. I am also using the visual aid method of teaching incorporating power point presentation and YouTube videos to deliver class in my classroom. The use of PPT has saved time and has become a good way to deliver lectures rather than using marker/duster to deliver the lecture.

Obviously, there are limitations too. An irregular power supply and internet connection sometime creates disturbances in between the lecture. Sometime glitches on the laptop create difficulties to smoothly deliver the lecture. A backup to the cloud or Dropbox/google drive can be the solution to it but anyway it consumes time.

TPACK (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge) and SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition) can help to effectively integrate technology into the teaching process. This can provide a way to modify the traditional approach of teaching and make the meaningful.

Lastly, I believe that integrating technology can make the teaching and learning process more result oriented. It can also make the classroom more engaging and create a dynamic learning environment.
